• Horseshoes have been considered lucky for centuries, not only in Ireland but around the world.  Millions of people believe  they bring luck and protection. Thats why they make amazing gifts for family and friends for all occasions. Gifts that will bring joy and happiness on good days and will certainly lift the spirits on bad days.

Irish Good luck horseshoes are gifted  for all occasions , brides and grooms at weddings,  engagements gifts,  anniversary gifts,  new house gifts, new babies , birthdays, retirements ,  get well messages, or even a student preparing for exams.

basically any occasion that requires good luck.

But what’s the history behind good luck horseshoes?

The Legend of St Dunstan

In the 10th century, saint Dunstan worked as a blacksmith. One day, the devil took his horse and went to be fitted with a horseshoe. Dunstan, who had been raised in a very religious background and was pious, pretended not to recognize the devil and agreed to the request. But he nailed the horseshoe to the devil’s foot instead of the horse’s hoof.

It caused the devil great pain and he pleaded with Dunstan to remove the horseshoe. The blacksmith only agreed to remove the horseshoe after he made the devil promise to never enter any household with a horseshoe hanging by the door.

Since then, horseshoes became a symbol of goodness and protection.

There are other theories behind the good luck brought about by horseshoes. The Greeks, for example, believed that the U-shape of the horseshoe symbolised the crescent moon which was regarded as a symbol of fertility (increasing fortunes). The crescent moon is linked to Moon goddesses such as Artemis.

Horseshoes were also originally made from iron, a material believed to be able to ward off evil spirits. Additionally, horseshoes were held in place with seven nails, a lucky number.

The Dilemma of Which Way To Hang Good Luck Horseshoes

Despite St Dunstan passing on centuries ago, horseshoes still symbolise good luck and protection even in the 21st century.

Today, it is one of the best gifts you can get a loved one . A good luck horseshoe captures a combination of luck and  protection,  and many people believe it will bring them good luck in their lives and to any special event or occasion.

But there’s one dilemma regarding how to hang good luck horseshoes on doors. Facing up or down?

Some people believe that you should hang your good luck horseshoe facing upwards so that it holds onto your good fortunes. Others say it should be hanged facing down so that good luck pours on the heads of those beneath it.

Whichever way you decide to go, it really doesn’t matter. What really matters is the thought and the good luck.
